DESIGN COMPETITION
Dubai Expo 2020, held in the United Arab Emirates, showcased innovations and cultures from 190+ countries under the theme “Connecting. Minds, Creating the Future,” with a focus on Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. It aimed to foster global collaboration, creativity, and dialogue, with thematic districts focusing on specific aspects. It is located at Dubai Expo2020, the Jubilee area, specifically at number149. Inspired by a common motif in many Asian cultures in the melting pot that is Malaysia, the pavilion is designed to resemble the Bamboo shoot or “Pucuk Rebung”.

Strong identity for Malaysia Pavilion. The motif represents the familiar triangular shape. Its is a significant cultural motif often found in various traditional designs. From the royal regalia of the Golden “Songket“,velveteen “Tekat“ and jewelry to the humble weavings of “Mengkuang“ and “Pandan“ mats decorating the homes of everyday people, the “Pucuk Rebung” transcends boundaries of class and creed.
